Toyota And Subaru To Make New 86/BRZ
This new deal will also focus on the companies collaborating on autonomous driving and connected cars. Toyota will also be increasing their share capital in Subaru from 16.83% to a minimum of 20% and Subaru will in return purchase shares in Toyota worth up to 741 million USD allowing Subaru to become affiliated to Toyota.
There have been no details about the next 86/BRZ, however Toyota's chief engineer has recently said that the second generation 86 will be better to drive than the Supra. The recent rumors around the second gen 89/BRZ suggest that the car could shift its platform from the Impreza to Toyota's TNGA. This is the same platform that is currently used by the by the Lexus LC500. It is also rumored that the next gen will be using the same engine as the Subaru Ascent. However with no spy shots of the prototypes whatsoever, it is unlikely that the next gen 86/BRZ will be coming out anytime soon.
